Strengthening Persistent Identifiers for academic events in Computer Science and beyond

NFDIxCS presented itself at a workshop that highlighted the use of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) for academic events such as conferences and workshops.

Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) enable reliable and permanent identification, which contributes to better findability, networking and long-term archiving of event data. In a workshop conducted by the PID-newtrok at the Technische Inforamtionsbibliothek in Hannover nearly 80 experts discussed the benefits of PIDs for different stakeholders (researchers, organizers, publishers, etc.), presented tools and platforms that use PIDs and explored the lifecycle of scientific events and how metadata can effectively describe it. The aim of the workshop was to take a closer look at the role of PIDs in optimizing the organization, visibility, integration and quality control of scientific events in scientific information infrastructure systems. 

Daniel Krupka, co-spokesperson of NFDIxCS and managing director of the German Informatics Society: "Persistent identifiers are an essential part of an open scientific landscape in the digital age. The unique identification of all resources, actors and products of the scientific research process makes it more transparent, accessible, findable and interconnected. These unique alphanumeric codes, that generally function as links and are linked to descriptive information (metadata) about the resources, are already well established for scientific publications and become more and more relevant also for persona and events in science and research. As NFDIxCS and as German Informatics Society we very much support these developments for an open science infrastructure."
