NFDIxCS at the NFDI4DS Conference 2023

On November 10, the consortium NFDI4DataScience brought together the NFDI community and the interested public at the NFDI4DS Conference in Berlin. Representatives from NFDIxCS were also into to present their consortium and discuss about synergies and opportunities for cooperation with NFDI4DS to master current activities and upcoming challenges.

At the public annual conference of the NFDI consortium NFDI4DataScience (NFDI4DS) at Fraunhofer FOKUS Berlin, all interested parties were cordially invited to learn about the consortium's activities. The program included a presentation of the individual task areas from Community Management to Transfer and Application as well as the overarching working groups, for example on metadata.

Other consortia and contributors from the NFDI community also attended the conference and gave the audience insights into their work. On behalf of NFDIxCS, Jan Bernoth from the University of Potsdam presented on stage some of the consortium's main goals and challenges, above all the development and establishment of a Research Data Management Container (RDMC), to the participants on site and via livestream. In his presentation, he also pointed out the similarities and differences between NFDIxCS and NFDI4DS, which are closely linked thematically within the NFDI but have different focuses to some extent: While NFDIxCS is primarily aimed at providing services to implement the FAIR data principles for and with the individual sub-disciplines of computer science, NFDI4DS supports the entire research data lifecycle in data science and AI projects in various disciplines. Their work entails various existing cooperative activities, such as collaboration in NFDI sections and data competence centers or in the joint community building.

The presentation sparked productive discussions, reflecting the conference's well-organized and engaging atmosphere. We, the NFDIxCS Consortium, are looking forward to the emerging collaboration with actors from NFDI4DS and other consortia.
