3rd NFDIxCS Hackathon at deRSE24 Conference in Würzburg
The NFDIxCS Hackathon convened on 5th March during the deRSE24 conference in Würzburg, tackled the multifaceted challenges associated with developing and implementing a FAIR Research Data Management Container.
The hackathon fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences, with a focus on the specific needs of the RSE research community and NFDI experts. During the event, participants engaged in in-depth discussions and problem-solving sessions. Challenges such as improving the usability of Research Data Management Containers (RDMCs), seamlessly integrating them into ongoing research processes, and ensuring their adaptability to different research artifacts were highlighted. Key outcomes from the discussions emphasized the community's wishes for the nearly fully automatic creation of RDMCs, underscoring a strong desire for tools that are also suitable for researchers with no coding expertise.
Important tasks for the future also emerged from the hackathon, including the critical need to define interoperability standards and develop user-friendly interfaces for RDMC creation. The aspiration to prototype these ideas with several stakeholders leads to an inclusive approach to refine the RDMC concept.
As we reflect on the progress made during the NFDIxCS Hackathon at deRSE24, it is evident that the journey toward enhancing research data management continues. The collaborative efforts exhibited during the event have laid a solid foundation for future endeavors.
