2nd RDMC Hackathon in Essen

A central objective of the consortium is the development of a Research Data Management Container (RDMC). To be in accordance with the FAIR principles, numerous aspects need to be clarified, including archiving, security and usability. On January 18 and 19, participants from the consortium met at the Research Data Management Container Hackathon at the University of Duisburg-Essen to explore these aspects.

To address central questions regardig the establishment and implementation of a Research Data Management Container as proposed by NFDIxCS, the consortium regularly invites participants to RDMC hackathons. After a kick-off event at the University of Potsdam from November 15 to 16, 2023, the second hackathon has now been held at the University of Duisburg-Essen, with a total of 11 participants from seven co-applicant institutions. While the initial plan was to work practically on the prototype for the instantiation of the RDMC and to create a RDMC platform for an artefact review process, the program quickly shifted to discussions about important issues for the further development and future implementation of the service. These included various archiving and containerization methods, data protection and legal aspects and structuring concepts into user stories.

The results will be used as a basis for further work on the RDMC and other NFDIxCS projects.

Interested parties are cordially invited to contribute to the RDMC. One way to do so is to participate in the hackathon at the deRSE on March 5 at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Freiburg: https://nfdixcs.org/event/ndfixcs-hackathon-derse24. We would like to invite everyone to work with us on user stories for the RDMC.
