Persistent Identifier
Persistent Identifier (PID) services enable the creation of PIDs for research outputs such as data, texts, images, and other digital objects. Institutional prefixes can be obtained to ensure that generated PIDs are clearly associated with the institution. PIDs can be created and managed through a graphical user interface or via a REST API.
A local resolver is operated to ensure reliable resolution of PIDs, and through partnership in the ePIC consortium, access is provided to at least two mirror resolvers across Europe, ensuring high availability and long-term resolvability. When metadata meets the requirements of DataCite, a DOI can be derived from a PID. Individual PIDs can be created quickly and easily through a self-service portal, where users can manage PIDs via a web browser and generate lists of their identifiers.
For larger-scale needs or integration into existing systems, custom solutions and bulk PID generation are available upon request. Additionally, researchers in the humanities can obtain DOIs through the GRO.identifiers service, part of the Göttingen eResearch Alliance.
