NFDIxCS Soirée #11: Why Sustainable Data Literacy Requires Long-Term Support
Technical infrastructure alone is not enough for sustainable research data management. At the 11th NFDIxCS Soiree, representatives from the data competence centers DKZ.2R and QUADRIGA discussed why data literacy, long-term support, and close collaboration with researchers are essential for enabling FAIR research practices.
At the 11th NFDIxCS Soiree, Alicia Janz from the Rhine-Ruhr Data Competence Center DKZ.2R and Vivien Petras from the Berlin-Brandenburg Data Competence Center QUADRIGA presented their work and talked about how researchers can be supported in developing data literacy and adopting sustainable research data management practices. Moderated by Mpho Mathelemuse, the conversation focused on the complementary roles of regional data competence centers and the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), as well as the conditions needed to ensure the long-term success of these initiatives.
A central theme throughout the discussion was the interplay between technical infrastructure and competence development. While the NFDI provides services, standards, and infrastructures for research data management, regional data competence centers contribute through training, consultation, and close engagement with researchers. Rather than representing competing approaches, the speakers highlighted how both initiatives strengthen one another and jointly promote FAIR research data management.
