NFDIxCS hosts workshop on Governance of Data Platforms
Yesterday, NFDIxCS hosted the workshop “Governance of Data Platforms” at the Einstein Center for Digital Future, bringing together experts to explore how sustainable and future-oriented governance for data platforms can be designed.
The discussion focused on the interplay between technical solutions, governance structures, and business models, drawing on examples from different sectors. Using platforms such as Health-X, Catena-X and GAIA-X, we examined how governance evolves across key phases of platform development: formation, development, operation, and scaling/maturity.
A recurring insight throughout the workshop was that governance is not about eliminating tensions, but about shaping them productively as stated by Martin Gersch: “The right amount of tension can be innovation-enhancing.”
By comparing existing approaches, the workshop highlighted how governance models can be adapted, simplified, and aligned with platform maturity, helping to create robust and resilient data ecosystems.
