New standards: NFDIxCS publication on best practices in research data and software management published
Research data is the foundation of science and research, providing new insights into natural, social or artificial processes. Similarly, research software is essential for collecting data and accessing data analytics. A book from NFDIxCS brings together perspectives and experiences of researchers from different disciplines and provides strategies for promoting open science and the future of research.
From art to astronomy, from software heritage to field research, there is hardly a field in which the management of research data and the use of research software is not relevant. However, conversations about these topics can be quite abstract.
Members of NFDIxCS at the University of Potsdam have therefore conducted interviews with 13 international minds from various disciplines who are implementing best practices in research data and software management. Interview partners with diverse backgrounds were consciously selected and include both seasoned experts and young researchers from various fields of research. With insights into their work, they provide concrete examples of strategies for managing research data and software, talk about challenges on the path to open and FAIR science and encourage interested parties from all scientific disciplines to become intensively involved in these topics.
The interviews were prepared by the editorial team of the German Informatics Society in the style of an easy-to-access coffee table book and enriched with additional information. This includes an overview of key stakeholders and important milestones in research data and software management. The book is supplemented by a glossary that explains core concepts and terms.

NFDIxCS launch soiree
On March 10, 2025 from 17:30 to 18:15, the editorial team around Jan Bernoth and Firas Al Laban from the University of Potsdam as well as Alexandra Resch and Greta Leßmann from the GI will give insights into the genesis and vision of the book in an NFDIxCS soiree.
