This was the 6th NFDIxCS Hackathon
The 6th Hackathon of the NFDIxCS project took place over two days, from lunch on Monday, June 30 to lunch on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The event was hosted by the Department of Informatics (Informatikum) at the University of Hamburg.
Participants from several workflows contributed to the hackathon, representing the task areas: Architectures and Interfaces, Reusable Execution Environments, Security and Privacy, Quality Management, and Legal and Ethical Issues in IT.
The hackathon featured a focused and concise program, beginning with an overview presentation that provided a comprehensive update on the development of the Research Data Management Container (RDMC) workflows. This introductory session highlighted the importance of upcoming development phases and presented a roadmap for future progress. It also outlined key technical architectural pillars to be embedded in the RDMC, including:
- Alignment with FAIR principles
- Adaptation of API architecture pattern
- Development of artefacts evaluation mechanisms
- Comprehensive documentation strategies
- Integration with PID4NFDI
This was followed by a series of insightful presentations that showcased the current state and progress of the RDMC development across various workflows. The contributions covered:
- Metadata standard
- Integration of Dataverse in NFDIxCS
- Recording strategies for reusable executional environment workflow
- API Manager: Architecture and concepts
- Artifact evaluation practices
- Revisiting RDMC requirements for interoperable core features
- Key features of the first RDMC release
The first day concluded with a strategic discussion on future development directions, focusing on both technical requirements and broader community engagement.
Day two opened with a highly relevant session on security and privacy in the RDMC workflow, focusing on end-to-end encrypted cloud services using FIDO2. This was followed by an online presentation exploring semantic and ethical aspects of RDMC implementation and usage.
The hackathon concluded with the definition of next steps and future planning.
The next hackathon will be hosted by the University of Duisburg-Essen, taking place from October 21 to 23, 2025.
