SUMMARY:NFDIxCS Workshop: Containerize Software – Why is it useful, and how
  do I do this?
DESCRIPTION:Research software is a critical issue in almost every research
discipline. Creating software for research requires not only methods from t
he research discipline but also skills in software engineering. This time-c
onsuming process often leaves little room to make the software accessible a
nd usable before submitting a paper, thesis, or completing a project, resul
ting in the loss of valuable scientific contributions. In our hands-on work
shop, we will showcase techniques to enhance the reproducibility of your re
search software at any project stage. Participants will learn about the ben
efits of containerization for computational work and how reproducible softw
are with metadata can open up their work to the broader research community.
The NFDIxCS consortium focuses on the development of a Research Data Manag
ement Container (RDMC), which involves containerizing software along with i
ts data and context. Beyond this workshop, we will also provide insights in
to current discussions around metadata applications, long-term archiving, a
nd addressing security/privacy concerns in RDMCs. While primarily designed
for practitioners, this workshop is also valuable for senior scientists int
erested in understanding these essential processes.\n\nThis workshop is par
t of the Love Data Week, in which the University of Potsdam is contributing
several formats on February 13. Futher details and registration: https://w
